Horizontal Lines Are A Defining Feature Of This Hillside Home In Brazil

mf+arquitetos have designed Casa Das Pedras, a modern house in Franca, Brazil, that’s been built using stone, wood and bricks.

The home is split into two ‘boxes’, with the lower building designated for the social areas, and the upper building for sleeping.

Upon arriving at the house, there’s a wooden entryway held in place by a board-formed concrete wall surrounded by stone.

Between the two ‘boxes’ of the house is a grassy hill with a few plants and boulders. A covered path leads to the social areas of the home.

At one end is the living room with a couch and some armchairs. A wood slat accent frames the wall and a door leads through to a bedroom.

This is the only bedroom in this part of the house and it has a stone wall behind the bed that flows from the inside to the outside, and a sliding door opens the bedroom to the deck.

Back into the main social areas of the house and there’s a wood dining table with black chairs separating the living room from the kitchen. Views of the mountains in the distance are visible from all areas of the house.

Next to the dining area is the kitchen. Black cabinets line the wall while a large island is home to seating, as well as a wood burning stove and oven. The kitchen, dining and living areas can all be closed off from the elements with sliding glass walls when needed.

On the other side of the kitchen is a covered outdoor living room and spa. The outdoor living room is at the complete opposite end to the bedroom, however it also features a stone wall.

Accessible from all of the social areas of the home is a large wood deck that looks out over the valley.

Back inside and located just off to the side of the kitchen is a hallway that leads to the upper ‘box’ of the home. A wood screen above compliments the wood stairs and ties in with the other wood details throughout the house.

The bedrooms located in the higher portion of the home, overlook the building that houses the social areas. Wood screens provide shade, protection from the elements and privacy.
