This Japanese Vacation Home Is Raised Up On Stilts To Avoid The Heavy Snowfall
Architecture firm Life Style Koubou, have designed the ‘One Year Project’, a vacation home located at the base of Mount Bandai in Fukushima, Japan.
As the region gets a heavy amount of snow each year, the house is raised up on stilts to allow the snow to gather around and underneath the structure. The cedar wood that is featured throughout the house comes from the local area.
The wood and glass house is designed as two separate buildings that are connected by a bridge. One building is for the ‘wet’ areas of the home, while the other, seen below, is for the ‘dry’ areas, like the living room with a fireplace.
