Gorgeous Valley House is a geometric timber cabin inspired by the Dolomite Mountains

Looking for a timber alpine retreat that’s different from the norm? Feast your eyes on the gorgeous Valley House, a proposed timber cabin that overlooks views of Italy’s Dolomite Mountains.

Designed by architecture firm Plan Bureau, the asymmetric home was inspired by the topography of its mountainous surroundings. Geometric windows punctuate the timber facade to bring in natural light and frame views of the landscape.

The 117-square-meter Valley House is top-heavy, with two diamond-shaped volumes stacked atop a triangular base. The entrance is elevated off the ground and accessible via a short flight of stairs. A small outdoor terrace flanks the entryway.

The wood-clad interior is split into two main levels, with the communal areas on the ground floor and the private bedrooms on the upper level. To mitigate the small floor area, the ground level was designed with an open-plan layout and access to natural light to create the illusion of spaciousness. The dining room and lounge area are located on a split-level below the kitchen. The upper floor comprises two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
