This food distribution center in Spain was designed and built in just three months

Under a tight budget, this charitable food distribution center in Tarragona, Spain was designed and constructed in just three months.

NUA Arquitectures created the building using a combination of prefabricated and constructed elements, allowing the structure to be finished with the help of 120 volunteers in the course of a single afternoon, creating a charitable space that provides a secure area to help those in the area who are in need.

The side walls and roof were prefabricated using metal panels, which allowed for a short installation time. The front and back walls were created using offset brickwork so that natural light and air can flow in freely while the building is open. The brick also echoes the brickwork of the surrounding buildings, including the church which stands on the adjacent property.

When closed, the solid metal and brick walls, without windows, provides a secure space, resistant to break-ins and vandalism.

Inside the center, there is a storage room, a distribution space and a service area. The service area gives low-income patrons a designated route to follow through the food shelves, allowing them to choose the items they need the most.
