Milan. The Teatrino is an intimate space dedicated to dialogue
At the Milan Triennale, Matteo Ghidoni – Salottobuono completes a temporary pavilion featuring a “flying” fabric cover.
For the Milan Arch Week 2018, the Triennale di Milano museum opened a new space dedicated to conversation and debate. Teatrino is a project by Matteo Ghidoni – Salottobuono, located in front of the entrance to the museum, and away from the noise of the activities hosted in the halls and in the garden. During the Milanese architecture week, the same authors who held frontal and spectacular lectures – from Bjarke Ingels to Wang Shu, from Paola Antonelli to Toyo Ito – had intimate and informal chats with editors Nick Axel and Nikolaus Hirsch. The concept of the pavilion is inspired by the interviews-events held on TV or in theaters. Ghidoni says: “The Teatrino is designed as an immersive, participatory and symbolic space. It is a small pagan temple to celebrate the rite of the interview in its collective dimension”.
The temporary structure features an octagonal wooden base, clad in diagonal slats. The volume contains a circular cavea that can accommodate a few dozen people. The central space is accessible by two opposing entrances. The solid base is covered by a 11 meter high light cover, made of a printed fabric supported by an aerostatic balloon. The octagonal cone texture takes up the diagonal pattern of the wood volume. The covering waves with the wind on the heads of the talkers, also being an iconic element and a call for passersby.
