IROJE KHM's green-roofed house in Seoul blooms like a flower

The Hwa Hun house in Seoul blooms like a flower, exposing a hilly green roof that looks like an extenuation of the surrounding landscape.

IROJE KHM Architects designed the house to harmonize with the natural condition of the site and allow its inhabitants to feel connected to nature in a direct way.

The “Blooming House” is located near an urban mountain in the heart of South Korea‘s capital and occupies a steep slope that is integrated into the design. Instead of mimicking the topological configuration of the natural surroundings, the architects designed the building as a geometrical counterpart to the mountainous landscape.

The shape of the house is formed through the use of irregular polyhedrons which look like flower petals that slowly open to reveal the structure’s interior. The green spaces are designed as an architectural hill covered in vegetation that seeps into the interior. This space is divided into different levels-forecourt garden, inner court garden, stair garden, waterfall garden, roof garden and various vertical gardens.
