House 3 is a green-roofed modern home in Toronto that seems to glow from inside

Design firm MODERNest teamed up with Kyra Clarkson Architect and Elise Shelley Landscape Architect to design this green-roofed dark modern home in Toronto, Canada.

The House 3 follows a similar design strategy as the firm's other buildings built in Toronto and features a clean look while offering a high degree of privacy for its residents.

The house is located in the West Queen West neighborhood of Toronto-a two-kilometer strip that runs along Queen West between Bathurst St and Gladstone Avenue which has reinvented itself since the 1990s as the city’s art and design district. The house covers an area of 2,500 square feet and features additional 800 square feet below grade. It features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a parking space, bike shed, and a rooftop terrace that offers panoramic views of the city skyline.

Recessed behind a fenced courtyard and enveloped in a dark skin, the house functions as a space where a family can enjoy their privacy to the fullest. The dark facade is contrasted by bright interiors illuminated via strategically placed windows and large skylights.
