Brazil. A miniaturised mat-building within an artificial landscape

Aleph Zero’s building mixes the residential, working and recreational functions, organised by a grid of 5x5 meters.

The Brazilian studio Aleph Zero completed the project House + House in Amparo, in the region of São Paulo. The composition of the building is defined by a grid of 5x5 meters and consists of a wooden and metal structure; the program features residential, working and recreational functions, developed in two floors, where circulation is emphasised by the presence of an artificial landscape.

The ground floor mainly hosts the workshop and living areas and develops around a patio with a swimming pool. The upper floor is composed by two residential volumes connected by suspended walkways and surrounded by vegetation, as if the surface of the site has been lifted. This unusual doubling of the ground floor determines an unusual relationship between exteriors and interiors, served and serving spaces. The distribution of the functions is flexible and can be easily be modified as all the areas of the building are provided with separate entrances.
