first look: SOM is building hudson yards' tallest residential tower in new york

images have been revealed of a 92-story skyscraper currently under construction as part of new york’s hudson yards development. designed by david childs, chairman emeritus of architecture firm SOM, ‘35 hudson yards’ will include 143 for-sale residences as well as an extensive suite of private programming. the soaring limestone and glass structure will contain 22,000 square feet of luxury amenities including state-of-the-art health and fitness facilities.

once complete in 2019, the tower will be hudson yards’ tallest residential building, offering all-encompassing views of the hudson river and the manhattan skyline. while the skyscraper has been designed by david childs, the SOM architect behind one world trade center, the project’s interiors have been developed by anthony ingrao, the principal of design and architecture firm ingrao. as with the rest of the site, 35 hudson yards is being developed by related companies and oxford properties.

currently under construction, hudson yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the united states, and the largest development in new york city since rockefeller center. the masterplan aims to expand the midtown manhattan business district westward towards the hudson river with residential space, office towers, retail outlets, a collection of high-end restaurants, a new center for artistic invention, and a luxury hotel with more than 200 rooms. take a look at designboom’s ongoing coverage of the development here.
