#PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

bricked volumes comprise fonte de angeão school in portugal by miguel marcelino

in central portugal, local architect miguel marcelino has completed a kindergarten and primary school designed to establish a close connection with its adjacent environment.

surrounded by trees, ‘fonte de angeão school’ explores the relationship between inside and outside, through two systems that define the project’s spatial organization.

within classrooms, where constant levels of concentration are required, private courtyards limit external sightlines, while providing controlled levels of daylight. conversely, in communal zones, the opposite happens: large apertures offer expansive views in all directions. continuing the profound sense of cohesion that underpins the design, there is no separation between structure, architecture and building services – pipes and cable trays are left exposed, while ventilation and cooling is done through semi-passive systems.
