angular dwelling by camillo botticini architetto set into the italian alps

planting a relationship between built intervention and nature, the ‘alps villa’ by camillo botticini architetto is set on a steep clearing that connects trompia valley and sabbia valley in northern italy.

the angular structure has been orientated to capture different sides of the mountainous landscape. to the north, the villa spills onto a courtyard facing the dolomites meanwhile, towards the south, large windows frame the green meadows. the residence is accessed through a driveway with a covered ramp leading vehicles to an underground parking and simultaneously pedestrian access is constituted by a linear staircase made of steel leading from the road to the entrance.

the idea of developing an expressive form yet balancing the harmony and tension of the surrounding elements was the challenge for the architect. the exterior has been made with a combination of natural materials, clad in oxidized copper and framed with accoya wood. internally, the resulting plan of the house is shaped like a ‘c’ with three floors increasing in height on the north-west where the structure ends up embedded to the landscape.
