Wonder Galaxy

Celebrating the 54th Casa Decor anniversary in Madrid, Patricia Bustos Studio has created “Wonder Galaxy”. A future trip that explore the relationship between the future coming and fantasy or dream world which through us back to our childhood times. On this “future childhood revival” where is visualized why when we are adults we usually opted to banish fantasies, we stop imagining and we become more serious and formal.

The answer is the colour. We use to think that a full of colour with a surreal breeze future can help us to refill our childhood energy. We start with the pink, this colour means a lot to Patricia and it has some magic that could change anything serious into playful, it modernizes the most classic piece or it refreshes the most sober and boring environment.

#WonderGalaxy is a risky and colorful dressing room, a three-dimensional reality that reminds us of an Austin Powers movie where we are the protagonists. The arcs and asymmetric volumes in the room gives us a feeling of infinite depth that expands the space with a perfect balance as a result. The gradients colours suggest a host of parallel and utopian realities where we could live if we wanted. As we dream... the best way is to do it with no limits. Fantasy colours and soap bubbles are mixed with unusual materials such as iridescent or the ceiling´s fabric to generate an atmosphere that bring us to another galaxy and helps us to visualize new horizons where we can dream and be ourselves.

The walls are covered with differents gresite tiles made from recycled glass of the brand ‘Hisbalit‘. Many different colours are combined on these walls, but the main one is the colour that covers the arches in this room, which is from the latest collection of the Cantabrian company, 'Dopple'.

A very thin and totally matt tile contrasts with the brightness of the iridescent glass. The bathtub is covered with pyrramid tiles and we have also made our own design for the rest of the walls that symbolizes a video game pixelation or a virtual reality scenario. The lined methacrylates of the windows are colour degraded and they produce a very interesting light and shadow effects.

The wardroves make the contrast between reflection and colour playing with people´s illusion of fragility and use the transparency of colours as a magical experience designed with golden iron frames.

It is important to think in a three dimentions way and to not forget about the ceiling and the floor.

A gresitecarpet ends where the grand bathtub is standing out together with the arches and in both sides of them, we have designed a furry carpet that gives us a warmer sentation and it plays with the geometry and it contrasts with the minimalism of the rest of the place.

All the furnitures and accessories are specifically designed for this project, the ‘BUBBLE GUM’ sofá is inspired in a massive bubble gum. This sofá has curves, it is chic and feminine but with a pinch of a ‘rogue‘ style. It is made of wood and fiber and it is upholstered with a metallized elastic fabric. When you look at this sofa, every single angle of it could be adapted to any shape that your imagination recreates. The ‘SPACESHIP’ sinks are made of glass pieces of the brand ‘Hisbalit’ and a pink alabaster are the star pieces of this project. The taps are made of polished brass and they are very minimalist.

Lighting is another fundamental part of the project and it remains again of the infinity of emotions, sensations and other experiences that we can have in the same environment. We have programmed different scenes thanks to the HUE application of Philips that makes light change all the time, so the visitors can live the 360 degrees experience and truly feel like you are in another galaxy. The ceiling lamp is a Bolia design and emulates bubbles that float in space, soap bubbles that convey lightness and a sense of magic along with the bubbles on the bathtub. The "COLORFUL PYRAMID" pieces are made of brushed brass and iridescent methacrylate. The shelves are also of our own design and they are made of brass and glass curved shapes fitting perfectly into the space between the ribs structure.

Illustrator Paul Fuentes is an inspiration for Patricia Bustos Studio. The irony and the optimism of his illustrations have always inspired Patricia Bustos Studio and at this time we have used one of his illustrations called `THUNDER FACE 'with the model Ronja Okane on it who typify a 21st century superheroine who faces her future with determination and courage. We wanted to highlight the woman and make them been the motto of this project.

The tiger is a humor element that has been used in a video and illustrations of this space with the aim of decontextualize and take the viewer out of context ... We thought it was a good point to include a tiger with a scuba suit in all this madness and again it brings that ‘rogue’ touch that we want to transmit.

This time we do not go back ... we look at the FUTURE with courage and we leave ourselfs carried away by the fascination of an unknown place. That is the price of creativity ... the new ... the true MODERNITY.
