kodasema's tiny prefab house floats on water through integrated pontoons

the koda light float by estonian architecture and engineering company kodasema is a prefab house integrated with pontoons that enable it to float on water and dock at harbors, lakes, and urban canals. its versatile modular housing concept offers a variety of uses, varying from a summer retreat, to a waterfront cafe, or artist’s studio.

built in collaboration with floating marina installations company top marine, the koda light float opens up the opportunity of using urban or countryside waterfront space. the tiny prefab house rests on a 6 × 12 meter platform, and is complete with a floating terrace and a bridge that attaches to the shore. façade-sized illuminating windows allow enough natural light to enter its high-ceiling interior, which includes an open-space living room, a full-size sleeping area, a shower room with toilet, and a kitchen, all within a total of 25.8 sqm.

the minimalist structure is constructed on a timber frame using wood, glass, mineral wool and steel, while its interior spaces are completed with plywood. exterior finishes can be chosen among a variety of materials including timber, zinc cladding, and various boards in a wide range of colors.
