newest imagery has been revealed of istanbul's futuristic radio tower

turkish practice melike altınışık architects (MAA) has revealed the latest imagery updates of istanbul’s 369 meter-tall çamlıca TV and radio tower.

the sculptural project expresses a rhythmic dynamism within its profile that transforms when viewed from different directions throughout the city. designed as a formal duality of aesthetic beauty and geometric logic, the concept allows inhabitable spaces to be attached to the whole of the tower’s core. while the endeavor requires advanced engineering techniques both in terms of architectural design and construction methodology, all the design features, architectural planning, and material selections were made considering these processes.

melike altınışık architects’ tower core had topped out at its total height of 369 meters — over 1200 feet, and rising nearly two thousand feet above sea level — in april of last year. in september 2018 the tower celebrated the construction of the first inhabitable spaces to be lifted and attached to the tower’s core. eight phases of this ‘lifting-up’ process had been planned, each of which includes three to four levels at a height of nearly 15 feet and a total weight of around 1000-1200 tons. each phase is equivalent to hoisting 1000 cars at once, hundreds of feet above street level along the tower concrete core.

the first 4 lift-ups had been completed last month. the top fifteen levels of the tower have been constructed, including the two-story restaurant and observation deck overlooking 360 degree views of istanbul, from asia to europe. the lifting up process for the remaining 130 meter facade will continue during the summer 2019. the monumental tower’s engineered facade is scheduled to be completed in late 2019.
