edition office builds monolithic residence of four interlinked pavilions in australia

melbourne-based architecture firm edition office has designed the point lonsdale house as a linear arrangement of four interlinked pavilions, each with its own vaulted roof and separate functions. located on its namesake coastal town in south-east australia, the slender, monolithic residence is wrapped in textured timber, a material which also dominates most of its interior spaces.

edition office has built the house within the coastal landscape of point lonsdale, while large openings between the four interlinked pavilions allow for plenty of air to enter through the house, skipping the need for mechanical air-conditioning and cooling. lined in timber, the vaulted central living space opens up entirely into the north facing outdoor room with a large pivot door, connecting living and dining areas with an expanded informal outdoor terrace.

two separated sleeping areas are connected to the central shared living space, where all residents come together. the timber-clad room is characterized by a warm, communal atmosphere complete with bespoke furniture, such as the dining table designed by edition office, while connecting occupants to the outside garden of native plants.
