Lush living plants engulf the green-roofed Pure Spa in Vietnam

No spa or yoga retreat is complete without a verdant backdrop of vegetation.

MIA Design Studio takes that principle to the next level by draping a nearly overwhelming amount of lush living plants atop the Pure Spa, a refreshing and cool “oasis of tranquility.” The recently completed spa is topped with a green roof and is located within the five-star Naman Retreat in Danang, Vietnam.

Pure Spa’s abundant greenery is made up of locally sourced plants that help dampen noise and regulate indoor temperatures. A large central atrium, multiple openings, open-air gardens, and lotus ponds naturally ventilate and cool the interior, making the spa a haven from Vietnam’s muggy tropical climate. The lattice facade alternates between patterns and green walls and a play of light and shadow is cast along the walls.

The Pure Spa features 15 treatment rooms, each with a deep soak bathtub and cushioned daybed built for two. Additional amenities include a health club with a gym as well as meditation and yoga morning classes held in the open lounge garden. “Different areas flow smoothly into each other and the beautiful landscape creates an amazing journey into a dream-like experience,” write the architects. “[It’s] a true space where all senses are touched and the mind comes to peace.”
