Daniel Libeskind and Immersive’s spectacular LED light towers bloom in Milan
London-based studio Immersive recently teamed up with Daniel Libeskind and Siemens to create four spectacular LED sculptures in Milan.
Each sculpture stands 33 feet high and features large embedded LEDs that mimic blooming and growing patterns found in nature.
The sculptures serve as gates to the Milan World Expo, and their spiraling LED lights can be seen from 164 feet away. The animations that race across the steel structures are inspired by natural phenomena ranging from the movement of atoms to the way starling murmurations group and fly through the sky. Particles flow in and out from the low-resolution outer LEDs towards the higher-resolution LEDs in the center.
“The creative and technical solutions for this project are intrinsically linked. This means that the technical solution for delivery of content had a huge bearing on the creative approach,” said John Munro, director of Immersive.
