World’s first sliding pitch makes Tottenham Hotspur Stadium fit for both US and UK football
Watching football is about to become more intense and intimate than ever before.
Architecture firm Populous has unveiled their updated design for the new Tottenham Hotspur football stadium expected to revolutionize the way audiences and players interact. The 61,000-seat structure will become the largest stadium in the UK and will provide improved sight lines for all spectators. The architects' innovative strategy in developing an immersive user experience doesn't end there. The visitors will also have the opportunity to walk on top of the stadium and enjoy stunning views of London. Oh, and the world's first sliding pitch makes this stadium ideal for both US and UK football.
The development scheme will include a permanent visitor center, an interactive museum, cafes, a cinema, a 180-bedroom hotel with a dedicated training program for the hospitality industry and 49 serviced apartments occupying the upper floor. A new building dedicated to extreme sports will house the tallest indoor climbing wall in the world.
The stadium’s fully retractable pitch will reveal a second playing surface for NFL games. “Moving pitches in stadia such as the University of Phoenix (NFL) stadium or the moving roof over centre court at Wimbledon have provided the critical experience to allow us to design a stadium that is perfect for both English football and American Football. The world’s first sliding pitch allows each sport to play on its own dedicated pitch and provides perfect sightlines for their fans,” said Senior Principal of Populous, Christopher Lee. We can’t wait to watch a killer match here.
