#LANDSCAPING AND URBAN PLANNING PROJECTS

Foster + Partners picked to design an exciting new transport hub in Wales

Foster + Partners have a chance to radically transform Cardiff, Wales with their design of a new central bus station.

The proposal is part of a larger regeneration scheme for the Central Square, also designed by the British firm. According to the project description, the existing interchange will be moved closer to the Cardiff Central train station, thus accommodating the increasing number of passengers. More details after the jump.

The design aims to transform the area into a new transport hub for the city and provide all the necessary facilities under one roof. It includes offices and residential units on the upper floors, lounge areas, shops, cafes and restaurants, along with an underground carpark. The mixed-use development will be dominated by a public concourse that opens directly onto the new public plaza on Central Square.

“The new bus interchange is a vital component of the entire Central Square redevelopment project, which will completely revamp the image of the city,” said says Gerard Evendon, Senior Executive Partner at Foster + Partners.
