The College building is Designed in response to the need to create a distinctive main entrance and to improve access to the college’s main campus,.
The Roper Building is the state-of the-art new entrance to The City of Bath College, Designed in response to the need to create a distinctive main entrance and to improve access to the college’s main campus, its key aim was to bring all of the College's Student Services, teaching and administration accommodation together under one roof. The building covers approximately 2200sqm over three floors and links the two existing buildings of the campus which were part of Sir Frederick Gibberd’s master plan for the College constructed in the early 1960’s.
The Roper Building was designed to provide unity between the wide variety of architectural and historical styles of the buildings surrounding the College. The design of the building is an angular shape with the entrance formed by a projection onto the street. External materials, zinc cladding and Bath stone, were selected as a modern interpretation of the materials used historically in Bath and as recognition to the industrial heritage of the area. The Roper Building was officially opened by Business Secretary Vince Cable in January 2012 and has been very well received around the city.
