Tiny prefab Sleeping Pod doubles as a guesthouse and office

CannonDesign's Yazdani Studio has created a tiny student prefab housing unit that can also be used as a mobile guesthouse, office space, extra bedroom or temporary housing.

The Sleeping Pod, which measures just 55 square feet (5 square meters), was designed for a student housing project at the University of Utah’s Lassonde Studios. Hit the jump to learn more about its many space-saving features delivered in unmistakable style.

The prefab pod is constructed out of CNC-cut plywood with a nested wood sub structure and its protective shell is made of fiberglass. The tiny structure is equipped with an air conditioning system, electricity and water and can be easily moved to another location.

The interior comprises a full-sized bed, built-in storage space, a nightstand, closet, bookshelves, a medicine cabinet, enough space to fit a TV and even a full-length mirror. The entire front site of the pod has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow enough natural light into the space, and thanks to integrated acoustic panels, the pods can be placed even in noisier environments or close to communal spaces.

Although the pod design is still in the prototype stage, the studio plans to build 80 units and place them at the University of Utah’s Lassonde Studios by late 2016. These will initially provide accommodation to aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs.
