JFGS architects creates casa gallarda in spain for mediterranean living

standing out against the cloud-less blue sky, the holiday retreat ‘casa gallarda’ in almeria spain is by architect josé francisco garcía-sánchez of JFGS.

simplistic in form, most noticeably featuring a deep cut in the middle as a vertical window, the property references traditional mediterranean housing– with little windows to reduce direct heat from the sun and the stark white appearance. orientated to face the best views of its context, the home is organized with amenities suited for everyday activities enjoyed while living in the mediterranean.structurally, the volume is divided into 3 areas, with ‘transparent house’ as the base- composed completely of glass but sheltered by the overhang of the structure above. the concrete ‘hole house’ for the services sits at the back, meanwhile the ‘white house’, coated in lime is ‘closest to the sky and a place for dreaming’. with a pool and a planted deck which looks towards the sea, the outdoor landscaping strengthens the connection between the built and natural environment.
