first look inside santiago calatrava's WTC transportation hub in new york

the highly anticipated world trade center transportation hub by spanish architect santiago calatrava is due to open this year in new york city.

despite being double the cost of its estimated budget, toronto-based photography captures the first look inside, showing the white, vaulted interior pathway looking true to its proposed renderings.

with the aim to establish a more dynamic and efficient connection for the bustling city, the scheme will offer 11 subways and PATH trains, with weather protected access to the subway, bus and ferry lines. delivering more than a connecting destination for new yorkers and visitors alike, it will be a base for retail brands such as a westfield mall and other well-known names. the exterior, is an expression of calatrava’s signature skeletal structures, which can be seen translated into the light and airy, marble-clad interiors. once completely open, there is no doubt the grand scheme will sit prominently with the other upcoming and existing architectural visions at the WTC site.
