elie metni creates modular centerpiece for starch boutique
starch is a lebanese non-profit founded in 2008 by rabih kayrouz and tala hajjar in collaboration with solidere.
created to help emerging lebanese designers; the annual program hand-selects participants and provides assistance in development, marketing, branding, and press of their debut works, as well as guarantees a year long exhibition at the starch boutique.
during the year, the designers also have the opportunity to participate in related workshops, seminars, and collaborations as organized by starch. to exhibit the works of 2015 participants joe arida, nour najem, sako dersahagian, and yasmine jaber — lebanese architect/designer elie metni created ‘EMMA’. a singular, modular stool element, the stool can be used individually as well as combined to create any form or, in this case, display. 70 are fitted together in the starch shop, which occupies the center of the space under a floating neon light. the ‘EMMA’ installation will be present through the duration of the year at starch’s home in saifi village, downtown beirut.
