Gens realizes individual hangar residence in suburban france
The ‘individual hangar’ is a brief departure from the drudgery of french suburbia.
Located in a typical development in pulnoy, meurthe-et-moselle, the 121m2 home by gens is a hybrid project that finds its form within the project’s numerous setbacks. The clients’ lot purchase immediately obliterated a significant part of the budget; an issue exacerbated by various constraints on plot layout, structure height, and similarity to surrounding homes.
To the east, which faces the street, ‘individual hangar’ fades into the background. Plastered wall and tiles, without windows, visually separates the interior from anything involving the neighborhood. The design stretches the allotment as far as possible, creating a thin form that defines large north and south façades. The profile regulates the interior as well.
The entire north side is dedicated to the garage. Translucent paneling and a unique roof make the space interesting, and was designed for the addition of various rooms and facilities that couldn’t be fit within the budget. ‘Individual hangar’ gets its name from a feature on the opposite face, where large sliding doors can open and close the interior to the outside elements.
