mestres wåge architects skews førde city hall by the river in norway
barcelona-based firm mestres wåge arquitectes along with nordplan AS has completed the new city hall for the town of førde in norway, after winning the competition with a clear proposal underlining sensitivity to the residents and its environment.
structurally, the building is flexible and responds to the needs of the users. meanwhile, the external façade wraps around a courtyard which opens up towards the river, and an outdoor amphitheater establishes a connection between the built form and the adjacent river. a recognizable identity has been established, illustrated in the rhythmic openings on the façade and skewed layout that forms the outdoor porches, and facilitates daylight into the internal spaces.
