Stunning snowflake-shaped home in the UAE is 100% powered by the desert sun

Baharash Architecture designed this gorgeous eco desert retreat for a well-to-do client in the southern region of the United Arab Emirates.

The getaway is completely solar-powered, and boasts a host of features that help keep the line between home and nature very thin. We don’t know who gets to enjoy this incredible retreat, but we can daydream that it might be one of the 10 Forbes billionaires said to be living in the UAE. Read on to learn more about this unique green retreat.

The home has everything you’d expect from a vacation home – a full kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The spacious kitchen features an indoor herb garden and seating for eight guests. The large pane windows limit the barrier between the cozy living spaces and the great outdoors, offering stellar vantages of the surrounding wildlife. Those same windows can also offer privacy with the flip of a switch. In the living room, the floor-to-ceiling windows are retractable, offering the opportunity to bring cool evening breezes inside. The center point of the structure is a round fireplace intended to be a gathering place, which was inspired by traditional Bedouin heritage.

In addition to being a luxurious getaway for quiet contemplation, the desert retreat is an environmentally-friendly structure. The home is 100-percent powered by the desert sun, and its solar power system generates clean energy and stores it in several batteries. The unique multi-winged layout of the building has a few benefits as well. Each space is isolated for privacy and features a unique view of the surrounding landscape. Additionally, the shape of the design aids in construction. Each wing is a prefabricated prefab modular sections, assembled onsite from insulated concrete panels.
