Corrugated Concrete Covers The Exterior Of This Restaurant In Thailand
Architecture and interior design firm ASWA (Architectural Studio of Work – Aholic), has recently completed the Khao Niao Restaurant + Onda Cafe in Bangkok, Thailand.
One key design feature that sets it apart from the surrounding buildings is the wavy precast concrete facade.
The L-shaped building, with its corrugated horizontal facade, also includes a series of arches, varying in size, that provide a glimpse of the interior spaces.
To create the facade, the contractor used a standard corrugated roof tile as the primary mold casting.
Then the modular concrete tiles were positioned together to create a large 6×8 square meters onsite concrete mould on the ground, which operates as a master mould casting to cast all facade panels.
Hidden from the street and located at the rear of the building, is a grassy garden with a tree. Arches of different sizes provide a glimpse of the restaurant and cafe interiors, while a covered patio provides a place to enjoy the outdoor space.
Separating the restaurant and the cafe is a covered walkway with a skylight and a garden. This area, together with the garden, can be used as a small event space.
The interior of the restaurant and cafe is bright and welcoming thanks to the natural light from the arched windows, high ceilings, and material choices.
