Domed timber rooftop by Victor Ortiz will enclose Brazil's largest tennis court
THE LARGEST PRIVATE TIMBER TENNIS COURT IN BRAZIL
Victor Ortiz Architecture presents the design of its GS Tennis Court for Mato Grosso, Brazil. Once built, the project will stand in the city of Cuiabá and will establish itself as the largest private timber tennis court in the country. With a focus on material efficiency, innovative structural solutions, and sustainable design, this engineering feat pushes the boundaries of architectural ingenuity.
Drawing inspiration from the radial structure of sea urchins, the design revolutionizes the concept of achieving curves using straight timber beams. The goal was to create a space that not only maximizes material efficiency but also allows for impressive spans. Through meticulous development, the team generates a dramatically curved rooftop through the sole use of straight timber beams.
THE MULTI-FUNCTIONAL AND SUSTAINABLE DESIGN BY VICTOR ORTIZ
Beyond its primary function as a tennis court, the project by Victor Ortiz is designed with additional amenities that enhance its appeal. The sports hall encompasses a full spa area, well-appointed changing rooms, an industrial kitchen, and lush indoor landscaping featuring local flora. This comprehensive approach ensures that the space caters to the needs of athletes and spectators alike, providing a holistic experience beyond the boundaries of the court.
Victor Ortiz prioritizes sustainability in both the design and construction processes of the GS Tennis Court. Minimizing waste through efficient pre-fabrication techniques and emphasizing the use of natural materials, the project showcases a commitment to environmental responsibility. By incorporating sustainable practices, the architects aimed to create a lasting legacy that harmonizes with its surroundings and contributes positively to the local ecosystem.
THE DOMED TIMBER ROOF
The GS Tennis Court will be recognized at once by its magnificent domed timber roof, designed by Victor Ortiz together with engineers Structure Craft, and Timbau Estruturas. Spanning an impressive area of 2,500 square-meters, this architectural feat encapsulates the entire space. The structure will be crafted with precision and attention to detail to create a visually striking focal point, encompassing the space with a panoramic, rhythmic timber.
With a capacity to host up to five hundred spectators, the GS Tennis Court ensures an engaging and immersive experience for visitors. The thoughtfully designed seating arrangement allows for unobstructed views of the court, ensuring that the game can be enjoyed by fans from every point-of-view. This attention to detail creates an inclusive atmosphere that fosters a sense of community among spectators.
