Kosmos elementary school . Antwerp

Primary School Kosmos in the Nachtegalenpark in Antwerp is extended with two new volumes.

The sports hall as well as the round building with class rooms are limited in height, well-integrated in the green surroundings.

The sports hall is a concrete tub, sunk 3 meters under ground level to limit the visible height. The building of class rooms has a circular plan with a diameter of 32 meters and is erected in masonry and a concrete core. Both buildings are shut by a roof of steel girders and steeldeck, and surrounded by a slender pent.

The existing protected building is renovated from within and provided with a new structure. It will house the entrance, the dining room and the art school.
