hiroki + tomoko sekiguchi build a mountain house in hyogo

designed by japanese architects hiroki + tomoko sekiguchi, this compact wooden house is located in a residential neighborhood of hyogo, japan.

defined by its gently inclined walls, the building’s roof and façades are constructed from the same material, creating a singular dense volume. the two requirements from the client were to have enough space to park a large four-wheel drive car, and not to be bothered by onlooking neighbors. in order to make room for the car, the plan was to utilized to maximize available floor space. consequently, the base of the inclined walls are situated at the very edge of the plot. a skylight illuminates the interior of the space, occupying the majority of the roof canopy.
