Cutting edge architecture in Ecuador

Architect Diego Guayasamin has recently completed a significant architectural project in his town of Quito, Ecuador. As the headquarters of the South American intergovernmental organization UNASUR, the building’s modern lines rise up from the ground and draw a line in the sky, as if it was on the way to higher grounds.

The massive structure has been conceived as a continuous environment in a dynamic dimensional space. Yet, it wasn’t designed as a closed space. It’s open to the public and contains a library and other recreational areas that are at the community’s disposition.

But this huge construction has also been conceived has a stepping stone. It is meant to contrast strongly with its environment. The contrast is highlighted by the fact that the UNASUR Building looks completely different depending on the angle at which you’re looking at it, but also by the its opposed colors and textures. It’s the materialization of the will to assume our modern times and go even further.
