TWO STACKED VOLUMES COMPRISE BRAZILIAN HOME BY METRO ARQUITETOS
LP House in São Paulo appears to be built from two independent blocks
Seemingly composed of two detached volumes, the LP House by Brazilian firm Metro Arquitetos Associados defies gravity.
The ground floor incorporates the principal living space and runs parallel to the property’s lateral border. It is topped with a smaller, perpendicular floor that houses an office. The second volume overhangs the main volume on either edge.
The cantilever combined with the 45-centimeter gap between the ground and the main volume accentuates the impression that the two volumes are completely disconnected. The gap also elevates the house to the ideal level for a seating area that faces the garden. An exterior stairway is the connecting force between the visually independent elements.
Structurally, the main volume is made of reinforced concrete with a solid concrete slab and inverted beam, while the upper volume is a lighter construction with a metal structure and steel panelling. All of the enclosures are composed of concrete, glass and wooden panels.
