TREE SNAKE HOUSES BY REBELO DE ANDRADE

A project in the tree tops of a beautiful natural park

Very few things are more terrifying than snakes, and the idea of snakes in trees makes us seriously consider becoming a recluse. Thankfully, Rebelo de Andrade’s Tree Snake Houses take only inspiration from the reptilian cretins. Located in the national park of Pedras Salgadas Park of Braga, Portugal, sustainability and respect of nature were at the forefront of the project. Rather than steal the show from the park, native slate and wood allow the houses to blend quietly into their surroundings. Much thought was also given to the infrastructure, leading to to the use of reinforced insulation, water reuse, solar panels and low-consumption LED lighting. Even the form perfectly mimics nature, like serpents weaving between the trees. We don’t find that image particularly reassuring, however the architects achieved a seamless integration between nature and civilization.
