THE MALENY HOUSE BY BARK DESIGN ARCHITECTS

A floating house reflecting mountain and sky

Australians love their land. We’ve seen it before and the Maleny House by Bark Design Architects is another dedication to the marvelous landscape and view. But of course, this complex architecture hides a lot more than just a nice orientation. The Maleny House is a reflection of its surrounding. Thanks to a clever combination of stone and glass, not only does the construction seems to be both light and robust, solidly anchored to the ground while floating, but it also translate the experience of sky and mountain in a very subtle and poetic way.

The choice of materials combined with the smart lines of the house’s design also create a balance between opposite sensations such as modernity, economy and authenticity. Last but not least, the Maleny House hides one last secret. A beautiful and Japanese inspired courtyard is located at the core of the building as a sanctuary celebrating the economical finishes and the harmony created by this house. Like a hanging garden, the courtyard is a shelter located at the center of multi-layer circle. It’s surrounded by the house, itself at the core of the huge garden part of the surrounding landscape.
