SUNSET ROCK HOUSE BY MACKAY-LYONS SWEETAPPLE ARCHITECTS

A sculptural structure that perfectly melds with the Nova Scotian shoreline

Apparently, when we’re not hanging out in Brazil, we’re visiting Canada. Another amazing Canadian home by Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects: the Sunset Rock House. Located on the southern coast of Nova Scotia, the residence overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, its cantilever becoming an extension of Sunset Rock, its namesake and the client’s personal sanctuary. Rather than being built directly on the rock, the house rests on concrete fins which reduce the environmental impact as well as protect the house from any rogue waves. The structure is also clad in corrugated galvanized aluminum, a strong shell that allows it to resist any weather, with one end of the house left open to create the perfect porch for sunset viewing and an abundance of windows to take full advantage of the ocean view.
