SCIENCE CAFE-LIBRARY BY ANNA WIGANDT

A beautiful haven for science and fun

Combining science and study in a cozy and fun place might be the first element of a nerd’s h(e)aven. Thanks to interior designer Anna Wigandt, this dream has become a reality with the Science Cafe-Library in the city of Chişinău, capital of Moldova. Wigandt has been successfully flirting with several boundaries on this project. She first had to precisely define which elements she would have to borrow from both universes, bars and science, in order to create a good mix of them both: a cafe, a fun place set for educational purposes. She had to combine the emotional and chaotic environment of a cafe with the organized and rational setting of a science lab or a library with the goal of mixing public space and work space to increase the involvement and interaction of young scientists.

And if the good taste and geometrical shapes of the cafe have been cleverly assembled to please the intended audience, Anna Wigandt thought of a last surprise to fulfill the young scientists. Keeping in mind that the place is also a library where lectures can be held, Wigandt designed a set of tables inspired by Kepler’s Mysterium Cosmographicum. Each table can be assemble into one large conference table or used separately. A beautiful and highly stimulating area that young and booming minds will love to inhabit.
