RODINNÝ DOM (FAMILY HOUSE) BY JRKVC

Iconic shaped house in Slovakia boasts sustainability and local character

In his most recent project, Slovakian architect Peter Jurkovič and principal of Bratislava-based firm JRKVC has designed small, simple home rooted in folk architecture and sustainability. Jurkovič has applied a few humble, practical characteristics of traditional Slovakian rural architecture such as modest size, an under-roof porch, as well as local, easy-to-transport materials to this project.

The most notable features of the house are its archetypical shape, which is cartoonishly recognizable, and floor to ceiling window panels.

At its core this project is a sustainable one: it integrates solid panels of laminated wood for the structural system, compressed hemp boards for insulation, and a heat pump/solar panel system for heating.
