NICE HOUSE BY MINARC

A gorgeous and eco-friendly family retreat in rural Iceland

Iceland remains a rarity with its nooks and crannies left almost untouched by human civilization. It therefore seems fitting that Californian firm Minarc would privilege sustainability and conservation for the Nice House located in a particularly well-preserved, rural area of the country.

Designed as a minimalist family sanctuary with a deep connection to the environment, the house integrates a maximum of eco-friendly and sustainable architecture and technology. Solar panels and strategic cross ventilation minimize the need for electricity, while large windows provide natural light and a direct connection with nature. The structure is elevated to reduce its impact on the ground, and the wooden siding is locally sourced and treated as little as possible to encourage a certain harmony with the surrounding forest. An outdoor shower completes the picture, but we wonder how often they are able to use it!
